South Wales Aviation Museum was set up to preserve the rich Aviation History in South Wales and to inspire the next generation of aviators and engineers. The museum was founded by two local aviation business owners and enthusiasts, Gary Spoors and John Sparks and was created through the dedication the amazing museum volunteers.

The museum aims are to inspire and educate the younger generation and provide a place of reminiscence and interest to the public. It is the aspiration of the Trustees that the Museum will enrich people’s lives, inspire individuals, and provide an environment in which enthusiasts and the public alike can enjoy and learn about the aviation industry, through the preservation, restoration and display of aircraft and associated exhibits and documents.

The museum visitors are able and encouraged to have a hands-on experience with many of its aircraft, allowing for a fun and engaging way for kids and adults alike to partake in an informal educational experience.  The museums range of activities for school visits and clubs such as scouts, air cadets and cubs, provide education whilst inspiring a new generation of aviators, engineers, and scientists. The museums volunteer programme has been integral to running the museum and has built a strong community, created opportunities for friendship, learning and being part of a team. Each of volunteers brings unique experiences, perspectives, talents, and ideas to the museum. There are number of volunteer roles, such as; greeting visitors and helping them navigate the museum, restore, and maintain our aircraft, help manage the museum’s collection, assist with educational trips, and so much more. The museum has a long-term purpose and holds collections in trust for the benefit of the public in relation to its stated objectives. The governing body therefore accepts the principle that sound curatorial reasons must be established before consideration is given to any collection acquisition.

SWAM is a not for profit organisation and registered charity completely self funded. 100% of the proceeds go to the upkeep and running of the museum and gift shop.
